This term our focus is on how we can be capable citizens. In order to launch this the learners participated in a capable google presentation creation where they collaboratively explored and brainstormed ideas about Diwali. The lasting understanding from this iExperience was that we can be connected in a variety of ways and display these connections by predicting and processing what the steps are in the creation of a google presentation. It was great to see the learners supporting each other in being curious and deciding what how to create the presentation and hear them describe their presentation as an example of how we can recall and connect with others. All of the learners displayed their capabilities by working independently on their own google presentation. The presentations can be seen in the learner’s Google drive.

This term our focus is on how we can be connected citizens. In order to launch this the learners participated in a connected road safety activity where they collaboratively explored and brainstormed ideas about Bike safety. The lasting understanding from this iExperience was that we can be connected in a variety of ways and display these connections by predicting and processing what could happen if we don’t follow instructions on bike safety from the checklist. It was great to see the learners supporting each other in being curious and deciding what how to colour in and to hear them describe their posters as an example of how we can recall and connect with others. All of the learners displayed their capabilities by working independently on their own poster and designs. The posters can be seen displayed in the learner’s iExperience books.

This term our focus is on how we can be collaborative citizens. In order to launch this the learners participated in a collaborative Art project where the NZC Achievement Objective was to share the ideas, feelings, and stories communicated by their own and others’ objects and images. The lasting understanding from this iExperience was that we can be collaborative in a variety of ways and display these collaborations by asking for help from other learners, learning coaches, families or experts. It was a great initial activity for the learners to connect with each other while creating a collaborative product. The students helped to brainstorm ideas of what it ‘looks like’ to be collaborative. They then used the brainstorm ideas to create their own pictures/symbols/icons to create a collaborative poster on “The Yin Fire Chicken”. It was great to see them supporting each other in being curious and deciding what to draw and to hear them describe their picture as an example of how we can connect with others. Zivashtine can use the word ‘Collaborative’ and understands what it means. All of the learners displayed their capabilities by working independently on their own pictures and designs but towards a team result. The artwork can be seen displayed in LH1.

Narrative Assessment: iExplore
Learner: Zavashtine
Date: 14.02.17
Learning Area: LH1
Learning Coach: Priscilla Lavakula
Learning Observed:
During iBreak One, Zavashtine has been busy drawing meaningful pictures using a whiteboard and whiteboard marker. Zavashtine began iBreak 1 with curiosity around what activity she was going to do and spend her time doing. There were discussions with other learners and what was happening within the habitat. Zavashtine shows her capability of drawing and sharing a story of what her picture means with others. She also worked collaboratively alongside other learners, who were also drawing using a whiteboard. They shared their stories with each other and this shows collaboration in our habitat. Zavashtine made connections to her outside world with her drawing activity.
(Story as told to Learning Coach)
The cat is a girl and it was walking and it was really lovely and it had a ribbon on her ear then the ribbon went off she looked at the sun and the sky she was with her family and she really loved her brothers and sisters she loved it when she had a picnic.
Next Learning Steps:
I would recommend for Zavashtine to think in depth of her ideas and that they are in sequential order. It would also help Zavashtine to find other interesting words to use in her stories.
